Lauderdale County, Miss. The money raised from the LEO Run to Remember marathon and half-marathon was awarded to charities Thursday.
The marathon raised over $18,000 that will be divided among three charities, the Alzheimer's Association, the Lions Club charities, which include the Mississippi Eye Bank, and the Lauderdale County cross country teams.
Organizers say they're already preparing for next year's race.
"I cannot believe that it would be any better than it was this year because it was so good," said Bonnie Earley, race director. "But we hope next year we can set even higher marks than we did this year."
Organizers set a new record this year with 381 registrants and around 300 participants in the event. Next year's race will take place Nov. 15.
