Meridian, Miss. A longtime newspaper carrier for The Meridian Star has died following a wreck while he was doing his job.
58-year old Tommy Ray McDaniel of the Herbert Springs community, shown here with his wife, was delivering papers near Philadelphia early Monday when he collided with another car at the intersection of highways 16 and 491. The other driver's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Publisher Tim Holder says McDaniel was a great employee who will be missed by everyone who knew him. "Everybody thought the world of him. He was a personal guy, you could go up to talk to just like anybody else. "said Holder. "He was hard-working, and again, I can tell you now that the Meridian Star will miss him as a carrier."
McDaniel was also a dairy and poultry farmer and is survived by his wife and three sons. He died Tuesday night at a Meridian hospital.
