The expansion of Meridian Community College continues with the purchase of its newest building.
Meridian Community College is now the proud owner of the building that was previously rented to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety for the Highway Patrol by the state Board of Mental Health.
The building on Highway 19 North is across from the main MCC campus.
MCC president, Dr. Scott Elliott, says the college is continually working toward offering more opportunities for students.
"Meridian Community College is really unique among the 15 community colleges in the state in that we have an urban campus, and we're landlocked," said Elliott. "So our board of trustees for several years now has been trying to acquire that area adjacent to the college to provide for future development of our facilities."
Elliott says he is proud that MCC is able to bring new life to vacant buildings in Meridian, adding not only to the college but the city as a whole.
