Police are investigating both a shooting and an armed robbery that both took place on Saturday evening.
The shooting victim was transported to Anderson Regional Medical Center after being shot sometime around 5:00 Saturday evening. Investigators say a 21-year old black male was shot in the leg while standing at the corner of 16th Avenue and 18th Street. The victim tells police someone drove by and shot him. Authorities say his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Meridian Police are also investigating an armed robbery that happened just before 7:00 Saturday night on 35th Avenue. Investigators say someone in Ford Taurus robbed a woman at gunpoint and got away with her purse. The suspect was seen driving in the direction of 33rd Avenue.
Police also continue to investigate a fatal shooting that happened on Wednesday night on 49th Avenue near Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Investigators tell Newscenter 11 that 18-year old James Henderson, III is charged with capital murder and armed robbery after police say he shot and killed a hispanic male in his late 30's or early 40's. Authorities say robbery was the motive in the shooting. Henderson is not eligible for bond.
