MPD Sees Amnesty Day as Success

Meridian officials say their 'Amnesty Day' was a success. It was held Mar. 2.

People who owed fines to the city were allowed to come in and pay half, and then have 60 more days to pay the balance.

Those with jail sentences were allowed to convert them to house arrest.

Meridian Municipal Court officials said the city collected $21,528 Friday. Eighty-two jail days were converted to house arrest. Officials say that saved the city $3,116 in jail housing costs.

The MPD said at least 26 warrants were recalled. Not everyone who came in had an active
warrant.
