Man Dies from Gunshot Wound to Head

One man is dead after being fatally shot in West Alabama.

Choctaw County Sheriff Tom Abate says a man was shot in the head on Thursday night in the Mt. Sterling Community. The man later died at a Meridian hospital. Abate tells Newscenter 11 the victim in this case is an inmate who was out on a work release.

The investigation has been turned over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. Abate says he is unable to release any further information at this time.
