The state of Mississippi is seeking new management for the East Mississippi Correctional Facility at Lost Gap and two other private prisons.
Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps announced the agency is accepting proposals for new management of EMCF, Walnut Grove Youth Correctional Facility and Marshall County Correctional Facility in Holly Springs.
"We have enjoyed our relationship with The GEO Group Inc., who has managed these facilities over the last several years; however MDOC is set to go in a different direction," said Epps in a written statement.
EMCF opened in 1999. It's owned by East Mississippi Correctional Facility Authority and managed by The GEO Group Inc..
The state says the facility has a 1,500-bed capacity and houses minimum, medium, close and maximum custody male offenders who have special needs.
Epps did not say when the management changes would occur. GEO chairman/CEO George C. Zoley has said the company's contract at East Mississippi will end July 19.
