Meridian Police Raising Money for Benevolent Association

Meridian, Miss. The Meridian Police Benevolent Association is asking you to lace up your running shoes and help support Christmas with a Cop.

It may be September, but the need for Christmas assistance doesn't wait until December.

The Blue Light 5K Run/2 Mile Walk/1 Mile Fun Run for Children will be held Sept. 28 at 8 a.m. at Bonita Lakes Park in Meridian.

Officer Lee Wilson says the need for Christmas assistance grows each year and the MPD wants to make sure no child goes without gifts at Christmas.

"We came up with the idea that we would invite Santa out earlier. Hopefully we could get people to donate the event," said Wilson.

"All these kids, and they're needy kids. And I love them and I think they need to be represented well," said 'Santa'. "And so this is a fine opportunity for the Meridian Police Department to help out the neighborhood and communities that it serves. And that's what it's all about."

All money raised will go toward Christmas with a Cop. The cost to race is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the race.
