With the economy in the news so much this week, and so many people unemployed, the job search can be a daunting task.
In Mississippi, jobs in the manufacturing industry are beginning to pick up, according to Jay Moon, president and CEO of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association. He says the manufacturing sector is doing well, despite the economy, and is showing signs of increasing the number of workers as the economy recovers.
With so many people unemployed, where to turn to even find a job can be frustrating.
In Mississippi, a new campaign is aimed at creating awareness among all those looking for a new career, whether they be high school seniors, returning service men and women, or those in college.
The campaign is called "Dream it. Do it. Mississippi." It highlights the manufacturing jobs available all over the state, and in east Mississippi.
"What we have is a number of really great jobs that we have available in the state of Mississippi, and what we've got to do is make the connection between young men and women who are thinking about careers, and the job availability," said Moon. "And so we've developed this new program in conjunction with Mississippi Public Broadcasting to showcase those great career opportunities in the state and here in the Meridian/Lauderdale County area."
There are a variety of fields open.
"Aerospace, also in the automotive area," said Moon. "And many other areas in which young men and women can go to a local community college, get the training they need, get great jobs with great benefits so they can take care of themselves and their families."
Dream it. Do it. Mississippi. is a partnership between the Mississippi Manufacturers Association and businesses, educators, economic developers and government agencies. Through this partnership, there has been growth.
"We're beginning to see an increase in job creation, particularly in the manufacturing sector," Moon said. "It's really leading the country out of the recession."
If you're looking for a job, you just might want to check out the manufacturing industry, and the training available.
