Meridian Naval Air Station, Miss. Eleven naval aviators were honored Friday at a winging ceremony at NAS Meridian.
Ten U.S. naval pilots and one Italian pilot received their wings of gold.
Newscenter 11 talked to one of the graduates who went a non-traditional route to achieve this goal.
He enlisted in the Navy right out of high school. A few years later, he was selected for a program called seaman-to-admiral 21 that allowed him to go to school and have it paid for by the Navy.
"I've been in the Navy for ten years now and always wanted to fly," said Lt. j.g. Darian Khosrowshahi. "My son, Aidan, was born right when I joined the Navy. So I've always wanted to create a life that I can pass on to him, and I think he's having a good time, too."
Khosrowshahi also graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2012.
