Meridian, Miss. Rush Hospital joined with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency to celebrate National Donate Life Month Wednesday.
People who have had their lives affected by organ donations attended the event. Balloons were released in honor of those people who have donated organs to help save other people's lives.
More than 1300 Mississippians currently need a lifesaving organ transplant. One organ donation can save up to eight lives.
"If we want to continue to meet the needs of so many people that need organs, we need to advertise it," said Dennis Duvall, chaplain of Rush Hospital. "People need to be aware that they can be an organ donor and that their loved one can continue to live through the giving of organs to other people that are in need."
You may become an organ donor by signing up on the Mississippi Donor Registry. Click the link to visit the website.
