With a hot debate around the country now about gun control, a Clarke County couple has opened a new store specializing in firearms and sporting equipment.
Deep South Firearms hosted a ribboncutting ceremony Friday morning at the shop located on North Archusa Avenue in Quitman. Michael and Lacie Smith say they saw a need for meeting the needs of hunters and sport shooters locally.
"This is something that I always wanted to do," said Michael Smith. "It wasn't something that we just decided to do. With the violence and stuff that's going on in the world today, we don't promote that. It's just a passion of mine."
The National Shooting Sports Foundation says more than 19 million Americans safely participate in target shooting. Deep South Firearms also sells other outdoor gear and fishing equipment.
