Lauderdale, Miss. The 76th semi-annual Ralph Morgan Rodeo kicked off Friday night.
Cowboys and cowgirls from across the nation came together to compete in a variety of events. Friday was WTOK night at the rodeo, and Newscenter 11 personalities took part in the riding lawnmower races. Miss Rodeo America 2014 Paige Nicholson from Lawrence is the special guest for this year's rodeo. She talked about what it meant to her to be back at the Ralph Morgan Rodeo.
"You know coming out to the Lauderdale Pro Rodeo is just like coming home to me," said Nicholson. "Coming out to Mr. Ralph's and Mrs. Liv's arena is just like coming out to a backyard barbecue with friends. I'm so excited and so flattered that they invited me back as Miss Rodeo America because I have so many fond memories, both coming as a fan and as Miss Rodeo Mississippi."
Tickets are still available for the rodeo Saturday night. They are ten dollars for adults, six dollars for kids. Our own Candace Barnette won the lawnmower races. Chip Scarborough placed second and Aaron Morrison came in third.
