No Government Funding for Local Habitat

Despite popular belief, a local relief agency says it does not receive government funding.

Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Fonda Rush says the organization is a Christian ministry and therefore, is not funded by the government. Rush says although it is possible to seek government funds, Habitat believes the community should take care of itself.

"A lot of people do think because we're involved in housing, they think we're HUD," Rush says. "Matter of fact, we get so many calls for the HUD office that we just automatically say, this is the number for HUD."

A Habitat for Humanity fundraiser concert is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th at Evangel Temple in Meridian. For more information, call Habitat at 601-485-4992.
