Officer Injured in Wreck

A Meridian police officer was injured in a collision late Wednesday morning.

Charles Swain, a motorcycle cop, collided with the side of an extended cab pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 39 and Tom Bailey Drive (Hwy. 11/80). He was responding to a call for service.

Officials say Swain was badly injured, suffering broken bones, but is expected to recover. He was listed in serious condition at a Meridian hospital.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
