Mississippi Cong. Steven Palazzo made his first visit to Meridian Naval Air Station Tuesday.
Palazzo was first elected to office two years ago, and was reelected Nov. 6.
He is the only member of the Mississippi congressional delegation on the House Armed Services Committee.
Palazzo says he's glad to finally be able to see all the things happening aboard the base.
"NAS Meridian has been a great community asset for more than 50 years and I know that Capt. Moore and Mayor Barry have a great relationship, and we're looking forward to seeing NAS Meridian stay strong for another 50 years," Palazzo said.
Cong. Palazzo said there seems to be an effort to balance the budget "on the backs of the men and women in our military".
Palazzo's 4th Congressional District is comprised of most of southeast Mississippi, including Wayne, Jasper and parts of Clarke County.
His visit was part of a two-day tour of the state that also included the 186th Air Refueling Wing at Key Field, American Eurocopter and Columbus Air Force Base, Aurora Flight Sciences and Stark Aerospace.
