Meridian, Miss. Some local students got a chance today to give back Friday before they start receiving gifts for Christmas.
The students at Poplar Springs Elementary in Meridian participated in their annual giving feast Friday morning. The entire school came together for the event, which included lots of music and other fun. The students have been collecting toys since just after Thanksgiving. They collected about 200 in all, including about 30 bikes.
"I think it makes our students realize that it is more important to give than recieve and especially this time of year, when children are making those lists to Santa, and they're saying, I want this, I want this, but they see that giving, it does make a difference," said LaVonda Germany, principal of Poplar Springs Elementary.
Wesley House officials were on hand to collect the toys and thank the children for their donations.
