Quitman Family Seeks Relief in Court

Quitman, Miss. The mother of a special-needs child in Quitman says the district is still trying to separate him from his long-time school aide.

A complaint was filed in Clarke County Chancery Court on behalf of the family of Kendel Allen, known as Superman. The child has been in the news recently after Quitman Schools assigned him a different school aide after eight years with the same person.

Kendel was briefly reassigned to Lisa McGill, described as a second mother to Kendel. But according to the complaint, that quickly changed.

A temporary restraining order was issued Wednesday to keep McGill with Kendel until a hearing can be conducted Sept. 12, starting at 8:45 a.m.

Newscenter 11 left a message for superintendent Suzanne Hawley asking for comment. As of news time, we had not heard from her. Both Hawley and the district are named in the complaint.
