Workers were busy setting up for the semi-annual Ralph Morgan Rodeo on Thursday. They were hanging signs, cleaning, and stocking up on food and drinks for the thousands of people expected to attend. One of the organizers, Linda Clayton, says that they're going to have just about every rodeo event imaginable.
"We'll have all of the events. Bulldogging, Saddlebronc, Women's Barrel Racing, and of course everyone's favorite, Bull Riding."
The rodeo is held each April and August, so they look for new ways to keep it fresh and entertaining. This time, there will be a wide variety of stock, and some new bulls being raised by Johnny Morgan.
"Each night is different contestants, different stock, so every time you come it's different, it's not the same thing each time over and over."
Clayton says that people from all over the region, not just the Meridian area, pack the stands each night.
"People will be coming from Mississippi and Alabama, from Jackson to Tupelo, South Mississippi, and West Alabama."
The rodeo starts at 7:30 PM each night and tickets for adults are $10, while tickets for children 12 and under are $6. This is a family friendly event, and the Morgans want everyone to take advantage of it.
"They were raised up rodeoing, and they like to do it because they like to have some family-oriented entertainment for the community. They're very community-minded and wanting to do for other people."
