Relay for Life, an event to honor friends and family who are fighting cancer, and those who have won their battle against the disease.

A night to remember those we've lost to cancer, and raise money to find a cure.

Lauderdale County's Relay for Life is back at Ray Stadium, and dozens upon dozens of teams are set to walk the track all night long.

"Our chapter has been touched [by cancer]," says Alpha Kappa Alpha member Amanda Carter, "and we just cannot go without participating."

"We will walk all night because cancer never sleeps."

Organizers are hopeful that hundreds of thousands of dollars will be raised when all is said and done Saturday morning.

In 2011 about $280,000 went to the American Cancer Society, and officials say the biggest goal is making sure that each team reaches individual fundraising marks.

Gates opened at 6 PM Friday night and Relay will continue until 7 AM Saturday morning.

If they are smart they will move it back to Northeast Sports Complex! It was very difficult to get all your stuff on to the field. You had to carry it load by load. Heavy coolers, tents, tables and lots of other stuff. Very inconvenient for teams! Then it became a hang out for kids of the local neighborhood! Rude, disruptive. They gathered on the track in groups and wouldn't move for the walkers! They were disrespectful during the ceremony. What happened to the city ordinance about the baggy saggy pants?? It definately was not being upheld that night!!! Then there was a shooting!! It was just sad!
