For so many this weekend marks a time for remembrance and celebration.

For Christians in our area, and across the world, the Friday before Easter Sunday is set aside to remember the death of Jesus.

At Central United Methodist Church, pastors from several area churches came together this Good Friday.

"Today we're hosting a three hour Good Friday observance here at Central [United Methodist Church]," says Senior Pastor Bob Rambo.

Rambo says the goal is to remind participants what Good Friday is all about by focusing on the words of Jesus found in the New Testament passion accounts.

"The words of Jesus from the cross were as simple as take care of each other...there is a lot of practical meaning from what Jesus said from the cross," says Rambo.

Other area churches are hosting Good Friday services also focusing on the passion of Jesus. The Catholic Community of Meridian hosts a living stations of the cross each year.

This is also an important weekend for the Jewish community in Meridian, and around the world. The observation of Passover begins Friday night and continues through next Saturday night.
