Meridian, Mississippi Eleven new reserve law enforcement officers graduated from the Meridian Public Safety Academy Thursday night.
The officers that have completed this training now have the same powers as any other law enforcement officer. These part-time officers will be working along with full-time officers to fill gaps and assist departments under special programs. The course is offered through Meridian Community College's Workforce Development Program.
"The main focus of it is to prepare them to be able to go out and be safe officers and to be able to be good guardians of the community and their fellow man," said Michael Street, the director of training.
The next Public Safety Academy class will begin in August. If you would like to join the class in the future, you can contact Lynne Thrailkill at MCC Workforce Development at 601-482-7445.
