Dispatchers are often called the first emergency responders, because they field 911 calls.
But dispatchers remain behind the scenes, calmly managing problems and even tragedies. That's why Lauderdale County officials treated them to a special luncheon and party Friday.
E911 director, Jared Stanley, says National Telecommunications Week gives him the chance to let dispatchers know they are appreciated.
"They have so much love and care for what's happening in the community and for responders, but they never get to be a part of what happens on the scene," said Stanley. "So this is our way to show them appreciation and recognition, even though we don't get to interact with some of those situations on a day to day basis. "
Lauderdale County has twenty 911 dispatchers.
