Meridian, Miss. Mississippi's Distinguished Young Woman of 2013 will be leaving soon to participate in the national program.
Mackenzie Ross from Lauderdale County is representing the state in the national Distinguished Young Woman Program in Mobile.
She will be there for two weeks as she competes to be Mississippi's first national winner since 2005.
No matter the outcome, Ross says she's happy to be a part of this program.
"That's going to be good, that I know I can go there and be myself," said Ross. "And no matter who wins, I know that I did my best and I can be happy for whoever that is. And that's one of the things that has amazed me the most is the fact that everyone is genuinely happy for one another."
Ross is competing for more than $100,000 in scholarship money.
She says her roommates are from Vermont and Colorado and she is looking forward to meeting girls from across the nation.
