Lauderdale County, Miss. Students at Russell Christian Academy spent part of their summer raising money for children at St. Jude Children's Hospital.
RCA students came up with the idea for a bike-a-thon. They found $132 will pay for blood work for one child at the Memphis facility. So
they found sponsors and biked 132 laps Thursday.
Daphne Boren is a substitute teacher at the school. She says it's part of mission month for the students:
"It always starts at home," said Daphne Boren. "And what we decided to do is for the kids to give back to the community, because if you do this at a young age, it's an automatic thing that they'll do it when they get older."
Boren says they don't have a total yet, because this is a kick-off to three months of raising money for St. Jude. She says the kids have pledged their milk money and are doing odd jobs as well to raise even more to give.
