Sid Salter has been named Mississippi State University's new director of the Office of University Relations.
In that role, Salter will be MSU's chief spokesman and marketing officer.
Salter, an MSU graduate and longtime Mississippi syndicated columnist, has been journalist-in-residence at the MSU Libraries since March 2011. He begins his new job Oct. 16.
Salter was a John C. Stennis Scholar in Political Science at MSU.
At age 24, he became publisher and editor of the Scott County Times in Forest. He left to become "Perspective" section editor at The Clarion-Ledger in 2001.
Salter was honored in 2004 as MSU's National Alumnus of the Year.
