Meridian, Miss. Meridian's Salvation Army is providing more than 1,000 with Christmas gifts this year.
Today was distribution day for the Salvation Army. Families came to pick up toys, gifts and food cards at the old Winn Dixie on Meridian's Highway 19 North. Major Walter Strong says the toy and gift donations came from the Angel Tree adoptions, as well as the Chunky River Toy Run, other agencies, school groups and individuals. "It just shows you the warmth of the community," said Strong. "The caring that is here when this happens. When you see some of the Angel Tree gifts that have come in, we have more than 180 bikes that were donated either through the Angel Tree or just people bringing in bikes to donate." Major Strong says 498 families were served this year.
