Livingston, Ala. Many residents of Sumter County turned out to the polls Tuesday to vote in the runoff election for sheriff.
Despite voting turnout being low across the country, the race between both Incumbent Tyrone Clark and Candidate Thomas Lewis has been a race that many in the area have been watching. When the polls closed at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening, the unofficial results came in declaring Sheriff Tyrone Clark the winner.
"First of all, I want to thank God for allowing me to claim this victory," Sheriff Tyrone Clark says. "Second, I want to thank the citizens for having faith in me to protect the lives, families, and properties there are. I especially want to thank the voters who are pleased with me and my leadership."
The unofficial results with 93% of precincts reporting have Sheriff Tyrone Clark with 2,258 votes and Former Deputy Thomas Lewis with 1,962 votes.
Probate Judge Willie Pearl Rice of Sumter County says she is pleased with how smooth the day went with poll workers and voting.
