Authorities have taken an Alabama man into custody on charges of cattle theft.
Sheriff Tyrone Clark says Marvin Cody Brown is charged with felony cattle theft for stealing 15 head of cattle from Perry County and then trying to sell them at a stockyard in Sumter County.
Clark says his department is continuing to investigate and there are several other active cattle theft cases.
"We checked our local stockyard every Wednesday when they would open for sales," said Clark. "And Investigator Davis was there at the sale on that particular Wednesday when Mr. Brown came in to sell cows."
Brown's bond was set at $20,000.
If you have any information regarding other cattle thefts you are urged to contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Department at 205-652-7984.
