Meridian, Miss. An initiative was launched Monday called The Meridian Freedom Project, an intense summer and after-school mentoring and tutoring program for children in 6th through 12th grades.
The principles of the project are: L.E.A.D for Love, Education, Action, and Discipline.
The children spend five weeks in the summer learning different subjects and also getting to visit a college campus.
"We also get nine interns from different college campuses that will come in and teach our students English, creative writing, math. And the children will be exposed to different universities across this country," said Amy Elliott, founder of The Meridian Freedom Project.
