Choctaw County, Ala. It's been nearly three weeks since a July fourth shooting in Choctaw County left two dead and suspects on the run. Choctaw County Sheriff Officials tell me that two men are in custody and were arrested Monday night in connection with the double homicide that occurred on Highway 17 at a birthday party. Now, witnesses at the birthday party say an altercation occured in the parking lot, where shots rang out and two people were killed.
The Choctaw County Sheriff's Department was originally handling the case, before they turned it over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigations. The ABI was the arresting agency in this case where they arrested 31 year old Gemayel Culbert and 35 year old Rickey Woodyard. Both of the men are from Bellamy, Alabama and charged with capital murder.
Newscenter 11 tried to get ahold of Choctaw County Sheriff Officials for an interview, but they were advised not to talk to anyone as ABI was handling the case. ABI out of Mobile was contacted as well where there was no one available to talk to us today.
The two men are being held without bond and their initial hearing in court is scheduled for tomorrow in Butler.
