Two West Lauderdale High School students were seriously injured in a wreck Thursday morning on their way to school.
One of them had to be airlifted to Jackson. The second was taken to a local hospital.
It happened just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Hamerick Road and West Lauderdale Road, near the school. Two vehicles were involved.
The two students were riding together in the same vehicle. Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash.
"The roads were slick this morning. We'd remind people to make sure you wear your seat belts, and drive at a slower speed when roads are wet, and also in congested areas around schools, like West Lauderdale and other schools inside our county," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.
The driver of the second vehicle was also taken by a personal vehicle to a local hospital to be checked out, but did not appear to have serious injuries.
