Meridian, Miss. Multiple shots were fired shortly before 10 a.m. in a Meridian neighborhood. A man was injured after being shot at several times.

Just before 10 a.m. Thursday, two men in a truck blocked in a Waste Pro collection truck at Arthur Street and 57th Avenue. They told the other employees to get out of the way and began to shoot.

"Based on our preliminary investigation, this was kind of an ongoing feud between one of the employees on the truck and the two shooters," said MPD Lt. John Griffith.

Witnesses say that based on the shell casings on the ground, the shooters used a 9 millimeter gun.

Police said the victim was shot at several times. An eyewitness told Newscenter 11 off camera that the two men fired about 13 shots into the vehicle, and when the victim got out and tried to run away, they shot at him again eight more times.

But not a single one of those bullets actually hit the victim.

"I believe the subject that was running was hit by some glass. I'm pretty sure it was in the truck," said Griffith. "But he had some minor injuries based off that."

The shooting happened within a block of Oakland Heights Elementary School. Superintendent Dr. Alvin Taylor said the entire building was placed on lockdown. The school had security present and administrators on call until the MPD gave them the clear.

Police say they have some leads on the suspects, but are not yet releasing any names.

If you have any information about the shooting, call Crimestoppers at 601-485-1860.
