Lauderdale County, Miss. Staff members of West Lauderdale Elementary School took a walk Friday to support a good cause.
The 5K/10K walk and run was a fundraiser for Relay for Life and a way to honor a former colleague, Elaine Sorrels, who died of cancer.
The WLE staff wore lavender t-shirts in her memory and donated at least $10 each to Relay. The group raised over $2200.
"Some people are doing a 5K. Some people are doing a 10K. Some are walking, some are running," said assistant principal, Lisa Shelly. "But the point is that we all do it. We do it together, set a goal and finish."
The race was also intended as a team-building event, aimed at promoting community service and physical fitness.
