Meridian Housing Authority has re-named its community service center to pay tribute to the late Eugene "Sonny" Young, III.
The dedication ceremony was held Friday to honor Young, who served on the MHA board for over 20 years.
Officials say Young's ideas and leadership helped people in the community.
"A lot of the home ownership, revitalization that you currently see happening in Meridian is a result of Mr. Young's vision," said Ron Turner, MHA executive director. "And so, therefore, we felt that it was fitting to name this community and supportive service building in his honor."
"My father was a very committed and dedicated man when it came to serving families and helping people," said Teresa Young Hodges. "He was a building contractor all of his life and he really wanted to help people and serve the community."
Hodges said her father's ultimate goal was for residents of public housing to one day own their own homes.
