Owners of a local flea market have been up and running for close to a month. They're now preparing for the grand opening of the store.

Penny's Lil Flea Market is located in Marion on Highway 45 North. The flea market officially opened August 2nd, but owners are gearing up for the store's grand opening the first weekend of October. That will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Penny Kennedy is the owner of the flea market. She says there are 18 vendors at the store.

"The vendors come in and they rent the spaces. They bring in their own merchandise. We have wonderful vendors. They've got such a huge variety. Every vendors got something different. So it's just a huge variety to come in and look at. So there's just something for everyone. "

Kennedy says the vendors provide a wide variety of items. Some of those items include costume jewelry and decorative items.

"One thing is the building. And just coming in where it's nice and cool. You can shop. We've got anything from glassware, we have China, we have flatware, we have furniture, antiques, collectibles, we just have so much it's hard to name everything," describes Kennedy.

Penny's Lil Flea Market is open Monday through Saturday 9-5 and Sundays 12-5.

All I have to say is if you knew what kindof people run this place you would go elsewhere. People from out of town do not know the owner but we in Meridian do and she is a snake and not a good person. You dont do bad things in life and expect them not to come back and I will leave it at that.

Dr. Obvious, it's a common practice called a "soft opening" that gives the new business a chance to work out any kinks before formally announcing that they're open for business.

GOOD LUCK to you Mrs. Kennedy. I know it will be a success. You and your husband are great people.

How can something open August 2nd and then have a grand opening a month later? This is just stupid.

The address is 7972 Highway 45 North, just north of Marion, and just north of another flea market that opened a few months ago. The phone number is 601-679-7733. As you drive from Meridian, the flea markets are on the right side of the highway.

Finally something good. We definitely need more like this.. More local stuff.. Good priced flea markets that will draw large crowds.. Bring different styles.. More variety than the old typical mall style stores that sell the same stuff in every store, except with different logos (yawn).. Sure, not all attract great things, but look at Hudson's. I see more people in Hudson's than I do in HIGH price stores. I know they aren't a flea market, but they do have a large variety each week (like a flea market and with typically lower price) that draws people in. It's not the same stuff month after month.
