Triple A predicts 34.4 million vacationing travelers will take to the road the long Labor Day weekend. That's 10 percent more for the same holiday in 2009.

Capt. Rick McCary with the Meridian Police Department is encouraging all drivers to plan ahead for transportation, if alcohol is involved in your celebrations.

"We're certainly not saying you can't drink. We're just saying that if you drink, don't drive," said McCary. "Get a friend to carry you home or find alternate means to get home, so you can arrive alive. "

McCary says officers will continue working the 'Over the Limit, Under Arrest' campaign through midnight Labor Day. They have already written 170 traffic citations in Meridian.
