A Country Music Trail marker was placed at the Lauderdale County Courthouse Friday for Elsie McWilliams.
She was the sister of Jimmie Rodgers' second wife, who
composed numerous songs for Rodgers and other country entertainers.
"This marker being placed here means so much to me and my family, because she was so, so much a part of our lives growing up. She and I had a special relationship," said Rick McWilliams, Elsie McWilliams' grandson. "She said I was the apple of her eye."
Elsie McWilliams is considered the first woman to sustain a songwriting career.
She was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1979, and died in 1985.
