There were a number of out-of-control brush fires reported in Lauderdale County Tuesday .
Forestry officials say they were made worse by the dry conditions.
"You know a lot of people are in a hurry, and they have to go someplace. They assume the fire is out and they need to be very careful this time of year," said Greg Chatham of the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
There are currently no burn bans in the area, but officials do ask that you be very careful if you do any burning.
The area around Meridian is several inches below normal for rainfall. But the U.S. drought monitor does not include it in its unusually dry areas at this point.
