Temple to Showcase Past and Present

The Temple Theatre will showcase silent movies accompanied by live music.

Two of the three comedies playing Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m., are new offerings written and directed by young filmmaker, Rex Harsin, who also stars in the movies. The third is a 1924 film, "Sherlock Junior", starring Buster Keaton.

"It was a film that, for its day, was just way ahead of its time, technically. The visual effects were just incredible," said Harsin. "They still are incredible. And Buster Keaton, of course, is one of the greatest filmmakers to ever live, so getting to see one of his films in a theatre like this, where they actually showed silent films with live music, it's going to be a good experience."

Tickets for the show are $5.

Temple Theatre owner, Roger Smith, says one of his goals is to foster growth of downtown by encouraging young artists like Harsin. But he said community and business support is also needed for the effort to be successful.
