Dozens gathered in the Queen City Thursday evening to celebrate the birthday of the father of country music.
The Dentzel Carousel played host to the 115th birthday party of the late Jimmie Rodgers. There was birthday cake, barbecue, and much more. Events were also announced for the 60th annual Jimmie Rodgers Festival, which be held the third week of May next year.
Newscenter 11 caught up with the great-grandchildren of Rodgers to find out what it means to them to see their great-grandfather honored in such a manner.
"We're happy to be here in the heart of it all where he's still living and breathing," James Court says.
A free open house will be held at the Jimmie Rodgers Museum in Highland Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
