Officials are keeping many details to themselves of two deadly shootings along Mississippi highways, that authorities believe could be at the hands of someone posing as law enforcement who is pulling people over.
DeSoto County district attorney John Champion said at a Monday news conference that specifics could not be released, including whether authorities believe it's a single gunman or what type of weapon was used.
Champion says the shootings are related but there's no evidence to suggest that the victims knew each other.
Officials say 74-year-old Thomas K. Schlender of Raymond, Nebraska, was found Tuesday, May 8, in his car in the median of southbound Interstate 55 in Panola County shortly after 1:30 a.m.
Then, Friday, May 11, Lori Anne Carswell, 48, of Hernando, Miss., was found near her car on the shoulder of MS 713 in Tunica County about 2:15 a.m.
Officials say if someone is concerned and it is not obvious that it is a law enforcement officer initiating the stop, call 911, or *47 to reach the MHP.
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Anyone who has any information about these crimes may call 1-888-827-4637. The MHP says it doesn't want your name, just your information.
