The president of Mississippi University for Women will weigh pros and cons of thirteen proposed new names for the school.
A committee that had been expected to recommend a new name for MUW at a meeting Thursday was instead directed by President Claudia Limbert to provide an analysis of at least 13 names proposed back in March.
Limbert is expected to make a recommendation to the state College Board, which will in turn present the issue to the Mississippi Legislature for approval.
One name eliminated from the list was Welty University, which was proposed to honor the famed writer and former student Eudora Welty.
