Some local firefighters are getting ready to try to prove themselves among the best in the world.
A five-man team from the Meridian Fire Department is headed to Las Vegas in November to compete in the Combat Challenge Relay World Challenge.
The relay has been called the toughest two minutes in sports.
The team recently competed at the state championships and qualified for the world event with a time of 1 minute 58 seconds.
"It's something that we do that can give us a little fun and a little competition to do, and give us a chance to interact and compete with other fire departments, and see how they train and things they do," said Capt. Mike Sims.
The team will be looking for sponsors to try to get the money raised to pay for the trip.
