The city of Meridian is under a burn ban, due to overly dry conditions. The Meridian Fire Department asks the public to discontinue outdoor burning and says it will not issue any burn permits until weather conditions improve.
The burn permits that have already been issued are still valid at this time, but the fire department requests that all permit holders not burn because of the danger of fires getting out of control and spreading.
A notice will be published when the burn ban has been lifted. That would only be after significant rainfall reduces the danger.
Any reports of burning of any kind during the ban will result in the fire being extinguished by fire department personnel.
