Mississippi Valley State University will celebrate its first female president and raise money for scholarships during an inauguration weekend Sept. 10-13.

Dr. Donna Oliver took office in January, but a whirlwind schedule has prevented her from receiving a ceremonial swearing-in.

Dallas Reed, interim vice president for university relations and co-chair of the inaugural committee, said the event's theme is "Soar to New Heights."

Reed said MVSU wanted to wait and make sure Oliver's inauguration was done right and the event will also serve a dual purpose of raising scholarship funds.

Dr. Anna Hammond, Oliver's chief of staff and chair of the event, said scholarships are key to recruiting.
