The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has donated 558 cottages that could provide housing to people still struggling to rebuild their lives from Hurricane Katrina.
MEMA Director Mike Womack says the so-called Mississippi Cottages were given to four charities and the city of Pascagoula under the Mississippi Alternative Housing Program.
Womack says the nonprofit groups may offer the cottages for purchase or lease to Mississippi Gulf Coast residents with housing needs.
The groups must provide money to buy land, to transport the cottages and to develop infrastructure.
