Lonnie & Pat's in Meridian had been open for decades before the doors were closed in December 2008. The reason was simple: the owners retired.

But the daughter of the previous owners reopened the restaurant July 7. It is regarded by many as the home of the best burger in town.

"Everybody was missing it so," said Shelley Tew, "We wanted to carry on the tradition, so we kept it open. We brought it back. Everything's the same. The only thing different is you'll have to pick up your order and get your drinks. It's homemade. Homemade hamburgers, home made French fries. It's the fourth generation, so we're keeping it going."

The restaurant was called Uncle Bud's Cafe when it first opened in the building next to its current location.

Tew says she doesn't really know when it first opened, but she is the fourth generation of her family to run the restaurant.

Love Lonnie and Pat's place, a great place to eat. The atmosphere is placed around football. Food is the best in town. Our food has alway been good and the service is good. They've always been exceptionally clean when I've gone in to eat. I would definetely give Lonnie and Pat's cafe a 10 on their hamburgers and cheeseburgers....

I love Lonnie & Pats. They have always had the best burgers & the best fries. I've eaten there twice since they reopened & everything is the same. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Tried L&P's. Stevens burger must have come from a different place than mine. I am not a food critic but would rate the food at 4 out of 10, 10 being the best. There are other homemade burgers in the area that are much better. Kewanee One Stop makes a 8 of 10 burger, and Cannons Homestyle Burgers in the mall is a 9 of 10 burger with everything make fresh daily. Plus I like eating at restaurants that look and smell clean. I did not get that clean sense at L&P's. I do think it's great that WTOK is going yo start giving free advertising to local restaurants.
