Lonnie & Pat's in Meridian had been open for decades before the doors were closed in December 2008. The reason was simple: the owners retired.
But the daughter of the previous owners reopened the restaurant July 7. It is regarded by many as the home of the best burger in town.
"Everybody was missing it so," said Shelley Tew, "We wanted to carry on the tradition, so we kept it open. We brought it back. Everything's the same. The only thing different is you'll have to pick up your order and get your drinks. It's homemade. Homemade hamburgers, home made French fries. It's the fourth generation, so we're keeping it going."
The restaurant was called Uncle Bud's Cafe when it first opened in the building next to its current location.
Tew says she doesn't really know when it first opened, but she is the fourth generation of her family to run the restaurant.
