A gas pipeline exploded in rural Smith County, killing one person and leaving three others critically injured.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokesman Jeff Rent says the explosion was reported around 4 p.m. Wednesday on County Road 99 just south of Sylvarena.
It happened on part of the Mid-Continent Express pipeline owned by Kinder Morgan Inc.
Kinder Morgan spokesman Joe Hollier said there was a pressure test being conducted by a contractor when they had a failure.
Hollier said the contractors conducting the tests were Beckville, Texas-based Grand Bluff Construction Co. and Priority Energy.
Rent said a fire in the area was extinguished and there was no evacuation.
