The estranged wife of former Mississippi Third District Cong. Chip Pickering claims in a lawsuit that he had an affair that ruined their marriage and derailed his political career.

Leisha Pickering seeks unspecified damages in the alienation of affection lawsuit she filed against Elizabeth Creekmore Byrd of Jackson.

There was no immediate response from Creekmore Byrd or from Chip Pickering.

The Pickerings filed for divorce in June 2008, but the divorce is not complete.

The lawsuit says Chip Pickering and Creekmore Byrd were having an affair while Pickering was in Congress and living in a Christian facility for lawmakers on C Street near the U.S. Capitol. He retired from Congress in January and joined a lobbying firm.

Christophe Hitchens is so right. Religion poisions everything, including a extramarital affair. If he wasn't a bible tumper no one would say a word. Of course if he wasn't a bible thumper he would have never been elected in Mississippi. Kinda tells you something about the effects of sweat tea on the brain.

I'm an atheist but don't mind people who worship and believe as they see fit. I've noticed however that the Evangelical brand of Christianity tends to produce some very weird behavior in people because of it's stress on legalism. The place where Pickering stayed on C street is a secret cultic society known as "The Family". Evangelicals John Ensign and Mark Sandford also have links to this cult. Members of the Family are taught not only the Bible, but that Hitler and Stalin are role models for taking power. http://www.amazon.com/Family-Secret-Fundamentalism-Heart-American/dp/0060560053/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247948787&sr=8-1 Fundamentalist Christianity has become a trojan horse for turning the U.S. into a god driven dictatorship. Now that it's leaders are being exposed I am hopeful that it will be defeated.

What is up with our leaders? Why do we just keep on letting this go on? We have leaders taking up for leaders when they know they are in the wrong.Does anyone feel good about telling the truth anymore? Better be glad you did't live with my Dad you paid a price for not telling the truth.

Chip Pickering is a religious sexual hypocrite just like so many other Republican lawmakers.Men of his ilk tend to praise the Lord while failing to observe the laws of God laid out in the Ten Commandments. Rick Berry, Meridian's "first husband" and Dr. Cathy Baxter should be ashamed of themselves for not denouncing his conduct when interviewed by WTOK reporters.

I am just sad that another group of children have to deal with the consequences of the mistakes made by a parent. All of us make mistakes but some families have to live out the consequences in the news media.I pray that these boys feel the love and security of their relationships with both parents and extended family, during this time of trial.

And yet another selfrightous Christian conservative bites the dust. There is much tolerance for these guys while others who admit fault and ask for forgiveness are constantly cited as the norm for the left. Wake up America! This stuff is everywhere. In spite of what you hear on morning talk radio in Meridian, lieing, cheating, and stealing are not owned by the left.
